3 Things To Do If You Think You’re Being Followed By Someone

Whether you’re out walking somewhere or you’re in your car around town, getting the feeling that someone is following you is unsettling. So while this can be a very scary experience, there are a few things that you’re going to want to do if you start suspecting that someone is following you. By doing these things, you can check to make sure whether you’re really being followed or not and know how to handle the situation if you feel unsafe.

To help you know just how to handle this situation, here are three things to do if you think you’re being followed by someone.

Change Your Path

As soon as you get the suspicion that someone might be following you, it’s a good idea to test this theory.

To do this while either walking or driving, you’re going to want to change up the path that you were planning on taking. While you can take random turns or pause at certain areas that you weren’t planning on pausing at, you can also just take four right turns to see if that person or vehicle is still following you. If they are still behind you after you’ve gone in this type of circle, the chances of you actually having someone that’s following you now are much higher.

Stay In Public

Once you feel like you’re confident that someone is following you, the best way to keep yourself safe is to stay in public and well traveled areas. Going off on your own into more deserted or dark parts of town could put you in a more dangerous situation.

By staying in areas with a lot of people or going on road with a lot of stop signs, you can hopefully either lose the person that’s trying to follow you or at least have witnesses around to see what’s going on.

Call Someone

When you first start feeling like something is off and someone might be following you, you may want to call up a friend just so that you have someone to talk to and let know what you think is going on. They can be on alert to hear from you or send you help if need be. And if you feel like you’re in immediate danger and need protection, calling 911 or going to a police station will ensure that you get the support of the police officers in your area in keeping you safe and catching the person who was following or harassing you.

If you speak to the police on the phone, make sure you let them know exactly where you are and what the person or vehicle looks like that is following you so that they have a better chance of finding this person and bringing them to justice.

If you get the suspicion that someone is following you, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you know how to keep yourself safe.
